Being a High Achiever with Depression – A Hole in the Law of Attraction?

Becoming a high achiever with depression: In this video I talk about some of what’s often missing when discussing mindset and the law of attraction. Also, I offer 6 actions and mindsets I use on a regular basis to keep moving forward, even though I suffer from clinical depression.

I’ve struggled with major depression for as long as I can remember. I tried a lot of different medications over the years, but nothing helped. The medications made me feel worse. When you have clinical depression, there is no 100% overcoming it for most people. At the very least, it is a battle that must be fought and overcome on a regular basis. I’ve had to learn how my mind works far more than most as a result of this. I have learned to dig deep into why I am feeling certain emotions and internally talk myself through it. And I’ve developed other coping mechanisms to lead a productive life. But, its not 100%.

In addition to my spiritual journey and prayer, I have always been into self help and personal development. I have studied the law of attraction and other similar concepts, which for me boils down to the idea that you are who you think you are, you get what you think about, whether positive or negative, and your mind cannot necessarily distinguish that you do not want whatever negative thing or fear or anxiety you are thinking about.

While I generally agree with these ideas, there can be a downside to the law of attraction for depressed people. Because you’re not realistically going to focus on only the positive things you want consistently every day. This can create a negative feedback loop that you can think you can never be good enough to have what you want because you can’t stay positive enough.

As I also have bipolar tendencies, I can experience rapid emotional swings quite often. I can go from being happy and at peace and totally confident to deeply depressed pretty quickly. Its overwhelming at times and not a recipe for success according to the law of attraction.

So, how do I piece all of this together to live a productive life:

  • I don’t expect perfection from myself. I’m not going to be up and positive all the time but, I keep my goals in front of me all the time.
  • Because I keep my goals in front of me and know what I want, I do the work even when I don’t feel like it. This is critical, because not fighting your emotions and not doing the work will lead to a meaningless life that truly is something to be depressed about!
  • Bottom line on this point is that perseverance makes up for your imperfection in working to maintain a positive mindset and trying to manifest what you want. When you have a bad day and give into the negativity or depression, get back up again. Variation on numerous proverbs from different traditions – a successful person falls down 7 times and gets back up again.
  • I take the time to notice what’s going on in my thought life and emotions and work to understand whats going on and talk myself through it. Sometimes, taking a walk in the middle of the day to process everything is extremely helpful.
  • I meditate on a regular basis. Usually, this is listening to meditative music with meditative frequencies built in for 15 – 30 minutes to quiet my mind and experience peace.
  • With my spiritual faith,
    • I choose to believe that God is good and is working everything together for my good and come back to this simple idea when I have doubts.
    • Remember this life is very short and having an eternal perspective can be extremely helpful to remember what is truly important in life.

Great Advice from Ray Higdon – Dealing with Prospects That Don’t Answer the Phone

If you have been in network marketing for any length of time, you have probably heard of Ray Higdon. I was just reading some really good advice from him that I thought I would share with you.

In the article I reference below, Ray mentions that we often spend too much time with the wrong prospects. The underlying reason for this is our desperation to sign people up. What if you take a different approach and try to quickly DIS-qualify a prospect instead?

I like this idea a lot. The more I work my network marketing business the more I realize that there are only certain people I want to work with. I am looking for people that are kind and considerate, teachable, and that REALLY want to build a network marketing business FOR THEMSELVES. So, if the person on the phone disqualifies themselves by being rude or unmotivated, I’m out of there! Don’t try to change people! You’re looking for the right people!

That being said, what I love about this first video is how they talk about setting realistic expectations about your MLM business.  Too many “gurus” in this business paint a rosy picture of instant success.  But we all know in our hearts that anything worth having in this life takes effort commensurate with the end goal we want.

Having the proper mindset is not only about thinking positively, it is also about setting realistic goals AND a realistic action plan that is consistent with those goals.  We have all heard the idea that there are different levels of competence, ranging from incompetent to consciously competent to mastery.  Network marketing is no different.  You don’t start out with the skillsets you need to be successful in network marketing.  These have to be developed over time.  And this takes commitment and perseverance!

Does Your MLM Suck or is it Something Else?

If your business is not growing the way you want it to, maybe its you.  Maybe its your upline – you are doing what they said to do, but you are still not getting results.  Maybe its the company itself.  Or it could be a combination of all 3.

Issue 1: Are you getting enough leads and people watching your mlm company presentation?

This is one of the big problems people have in MLM.  They say its a numbers game and I think there is a lot of truth to that.  If your upline told you to make a list of your friends and family and that’s all you’re doing, chances are you are not getting a lot of people to your presentation.  Eventually that list dries up.  And lets be honest: how many people actually feel comfortable calling their friends and trying to get them to a presentation.  Not many.  Some people build solid businesses that way, but not many.  What are you going to do to change this?

Issue 2: Are the people you are recruiting into your MLM doing anything?

So, you may be one of those that is comfortable with contacting friends and family, but most of the people you bring in aren’t.  So, do you have a workable plan that anyone who really wants it can follow?  Online marketing systems: content marketing, capture pages, online presentations, paid advertising strategies that work?

Issue 3: Are you with the right company?

Ok, this is a touchy subject.  Maybe you are great at recruiting, and your team is duplicating.  But its still like there is a hole in the boat and you are just treading water despite your massive action.  Attrition…  Maybe the products are to expensive for the masses or the auto-ship requirement is draining people while they try to get started and they just run out of money and/or emotional energy?  Be honest?  Would you buy these products if there wasn’t an income opportunity attached?  You can check out what I am doing and watch a free presentation video and a video that discusses the 12 success factors you should look for before joining a network marketing company.
